What your cells really reveal about you
Prof. Dr. Jörg Kriegsmann combines pathology with preventive genetics. His approach: understand genes, recognize risks, act in an informed manner – before symptoms develop.
Performance doesn't begin in the gym
It begins in the tissue.
Before symptoms appear, before blood values become abnormal, before the body rebels – cells, proteins, and molecular signatures change. This is precisely where the work of Prof. Dr. med. habil. Dr. phil. Jörg Kriegsmann comes in.
Pathology: More than just findings
For many, pathology conjures up images of medical reports and complicated findings. In reality, it is one of the most precise decision-making tools in modern medicine. It reveals not only what is diseased, but also why processes go awry. And often long before symptoms appear.
Professor Kriegsmann has established one of the largest institutes for histology, cytology, and molecular genetic diagnostics in Trier. As a specialist in pathology and molecular pathology, he combines classical tissue analysis with state-of-the-art molecular methods. A crucial step was the introduction of imaging mass spectrometry into diagnostics—a method that makes molecular changes directly visible in tissue.
The focus shifts from just the what to the why.
Genes are not destiny – they provide clues
In addition to classical pathology, Professor Kriegsmann is intensively involved in preventive genetics. With the founding of Proteopath GmbH , he created a platform that makes genetic analyses usable for preventive health decisions.
The basic idea is this: Knowing your genetic predisposition allows you to strategically utilize your strengths and compensate for potential weaknesses through diet, behavior, or therapy. It's not about dramatizing risks – but about making informed decisions.
The book: Understanding genes, taking responsibility
With "Genes – Key to Health," Professor Kriegsmann deliberately addresses a broader audience beyond specialists. The book explains in an accessible way how genes influence the metabolism of nutrients, vitamins, and environmental toxins, what role they play in athletic performance, and how they influence the effects of medications.
Topics such as pharmacogenetics, nutrigenetics and detox genetics are viewed objectively: as decision-making aids, not as promises.
Health is individual. Knowing your genetic predisposition allows you to act more informed – without falling into determinism or the compulsion to self-optimize.

Diagnostics with attitude
Proteopath performs complex genetic and molecular analyses – always with a focus on interpretation and medical context. Some of the tests are available to private individuals, while the majority are commissioned by physicians.
Professor Kriegsmann's principle is clear:
Diagnostics should not cause uncertainty, but rather provide guidance.
To person
Prof. Dr. med. habil. Dr. phil. Jörg Kriegsmann is a specialist in pathology, a molecular pathologist, and a professor at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. He received his doctorate in medicine (summa cum laude) and his doctorate in philosophy (magna cum laude) and completed his habilitation in pathology in 1998.
He is the author of numerous scientific publications, a reviewer for journals such as the American Journal of Pathology and Arthritis & Rheumatism , and a co-author of standard works such as the Handbook of Experimental Immunology. His team has received awards including KfW GründerChampion Rheinland-Pfalz and TOP 100 Innovation Winner 2025 .
The answer is not in the mirror
If you want to know how resilient your system really is, the answer doesn't start in the mirror – but in the microscope.
